About me: Born in England, daughter of a West Indian
father in the British Army, I have lived all over England, Germany, Hong
Kong and Australia. Newark, Nottinghamshire has been my home for the
past 30 years where I live with my husband and two children. I work in
my studio in the garden.
My work evolves constantly – I use many mediums and techniques. The work may seem disparate but there is a consistency in my emotional response to the subjects which inform the work – memories, people, places and current affairs which have touched my life in good and bad ways! In the past I worked primarily with clay but increasingly drawing and painting has taken precedence. Watercolour is a medium which fascinates me, I suppose historically it was seen as a feminine medium, usually used very watered down and translucent on a small scale. My watercolours are dense, usually dark with layer upon layer of pigment worked into the paper which is normally over 70cms large using huge brushes which can make a very difficult medium sometimes impossible to control but leaves the finished piece very much a product of chance!
